A “quick” update. Fun stuff

by Kathi on Monday, November 12, 2007

Been a few weeks since I posted anything. I suppose laziness can account for some of it but I have actually been doing things. Creating in polymer clay and the kitchen. I believe the last things I posted were the Channukiots I made and the *eye* pods. Well the ducks have been a hit to say the least, with other folks since the chnnukiah recipient doesn’t have hers yet.

When I was showing the ducks to Moe, she immediately decided she needed five of them. Not only that, she decided that each one had to be different and specified what she wanted. She wanted a baby duck, professor, judge, hairdresser and piano tuner/runner. Hey…who am I to argue with Moe? So, I made her some duckies. They flew all the way to Hawaii all by themselves. I am so proud of them.

Moe’s Ducks

After I finished with Moe’s ducks I let the inner child come out and play with some left over clay. Lord, I should know better then to do that. But, I love these little critters and believe it or not one actually found a new home at the Interfaith craft fair I participated in last weekend. I call them B-Ogres.

Meet Boggie and Boggle, the B-Ogres

Once the the craft fair was over it was time to start doing my Suzy Homemaker imitation. I blame this all on Lisa Clarke of Polka Dot Creations. She is always posting in her blog about the neat sewing creations she has made, or the wonderful things she has made in kitchen. Not to mention she is always posting droolable recipes. In out back yard we have several different fruit trees. We have fig, pink grapefruit, lemon, quince, pomegranate, a small peach tree and a madarin orange tree. This year the quince and pomegranate trees produced an over abundance of fruit so I decided it was time to make jellies. It took three days to pick fruit and make the jelly. (ok…I did take a few breaks to play with clay) After all was said and done I have 12 pints of pom jelly and 12 pts of quince jelly. The quince tree doesn’t even look like I picked any fruit. I put the jelly up in 1/2 pint jars so there is a ton of it!

Quince and Pomegranate Jellies

Look at is shine in the sunshine. Yummers!

Now that the jelly is done it is time to finish Miss Munchies new shirt for the colder days. It is made out of the ribbed long underwear type material with paw prints all over it. yep…sickening cute it is and will be even more so when she is wearing it. I cut it all out last night and as soon as I am done with this post I am off to the sewing machine to put it all together!

And, because I don’t want anyone to think I have forgotten how to make pretties, here are 4 focals I made using Julie Picarello’s Mokume Gane technique that she shared at Sandy Camp. I still need to add a few parts to a couple of them and then they all need to be made into pendants, but I sure am happy with how they turned out so far. I forgot to add a penny to the picture to show size but they are all about 1 1/2″ tall (give or take). A bit of a change from my normal color palette but dang I sure love them. They will either head to Hawaii to Moe and her next craft fair or end up in my web store. I have a whole bunch more slices waiting to be made into new creations. Without further ado….the pretties.

And now some other type of news. On Friday I am having wrist surgery. Nothing totally serious, just the removal of a ganglion cyst in the tendon sheath that attaches to my thumb. Needless to say I haven’t been able to cane because of the pain the it makes the cyst grow. I am going to take a wild guess that my non-stop big cane making and reducing was the instigator of the cyst. It wil be done under a local (with lots of happy juice for me) and should only take half an hour. But…until he opens it up he won’t promise that. I will be in a bulky splint with my hand cocked back for 5 days. Needless to say that will make claying pretty darn impossible. So, I have books to read, and creating Zentangles. I am hoping I will be able to still surf and do a wee bit of typing until I get the splint off. Once that is gone the doc wants me to start pt at home using clay. Gosh…what a hardship that will be :) Thanks for stopping by!

I’m drooling over that quince jelly, haven’t had any in years. Munchie’s new outfit is going to be adorable. Good luck with your operation, may you enjoy your clay “therapy” afterwards ;-)

Yum, jelly. I used to make black raspberry jelly until my DH caught T2 Diabetes and we don’t eat jelly anymore. Yes, I tried the sugar free and yes it was awful. And bigger yummers to that purple MG from Julies demo.
Pictures of the Munchster in her new duds, please.

Pictures will come of Munchie in her new duds will come once I cut down this supposedly xsmall pattern. Sheesh her big brother can wear this coat. he is 22 pounds…she is only 4.5!!

you sure wouldn’t want to feed this to your DH. He would go into sugar overdose and need a ton of insulin to fix it! but…it sure is good. Might save a jar of each to take to SC next year.

My stomach actually started growling when I read about the jellys. What a fabulous back yard!!! I can’t imagine just walking out and picking all those wonderful fruits! Someday I won’t live in Minnesota. And I can’t wait to see Munchie all dressed up!!! I just got you in my google reader so I’m looking forward to more posts.

I swear the yard was almost the main thing that sold us on this house. Being able to go grab a grapefruit year round and have them be so sweat one doesn’t need sugar….amazing. I love my fruit trees! I am seriously thinking about putting a couple jars of jelly in my store and see if they will sell. Thanks for adding me to your reader!

Jealous back!
Good luck with the surgery Kath!
I must tell you my own ganglion story. I had one on my wrist for years. The doc offered to whack it with a bible! I ran! LOL But a few months ago I fell smack bang in the middle of the road…my shoelaces had caught and I tripped…using my hands to help soften the fall. Then I’m looking at my cut knees and aching wrist and abracadabra, that lump was gone and it’s stayed gone.

you want some Jelly Mel? I will send ya some :)

We tried the pop the cyst…not with a bible though. A doctor friend did it. Only problem…it came back 45 minutes later and was twice the size. I had the choice of happy juice, a local, and getting it cut out OR a needle aspiration and shot of cortisone. I think not. anything with happy juice gets my vote :D

Thanks Bettina :) I love the PT part. Doc says claying will work perfectly! I am sure reducing a monster cane won’t be in the near future, but hand conditioning clay will :)
