Can you believe that more than 1.3 million new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in the United States this year? Those are staggering statistics, but there is hope. Each of us can do something to save lives and help those already fighting this disease. That’s why I’ve decided to take action against cancer by supporting the American Cancer Society Relay For LifeĀ® event right here in my community.
Relay For Life is an overnight event that brings our community together to help support the American Cancer Society and its lifesaving mission to eliminate cancer as a major health problem. The Society works hard every day to prevent cancer and save lives by supporting groundbreaking research, affecting public policies that protect us from cancer, and educating people on how to prevent or detect cancer early. The Society helps people with cancer right here in our own community. And our efforts at Relay For Life can help the American Cancer Society to keep working toward a cancer-free future.
Cancer has touched my life more often then it should of. From losing my mom to cancer, to celebrating the fact that my brother and partner are both cancer survivors. Having lost too many friends to this disease, I commit to Relay For life each year, hoping that maybe this is the year that a cure is found. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and if you are lead to make a donation to help me fulfill my goal of raising $500, I thank you in advance.

ME
Starting yesterday afternoon. K started AND finished her taxes, and I did the same. I know not terribly exciting is it? But actually it IS!!!! Why you ask? Not because we get that wonderful (snork) rebate from the feds (because I don’t) but because for the first time in the almost 10 years that we have been registered domestic partners, K and I got to file “married” on our state taxes. For those of you who are *allowed* to be married it may be no big deal but for those of us relegated to “second class” domestic partners it is a big deal. It allows us to get the same monetary benefits of married folks.
What this means is that we now can seriously think about replacing the evil carpet in the whole house with hardwood flooring! Yipeeeeee *flip* *flip*. We thought we wouldn’t be able to do this until the end of the year or next year because we had a sewer emergency that had to be fixed. Our sewer line collapsed and needed to be replaced. there went our new flooring fund. But, because we were able to file jointly in the state, we now have enough (with K’s federal and the rebate) to re-floor the whole house
Today I began the chore of pulling the old carpet. I got all of the office up (except for what’s under the heavy stuff) and will head down the hall and into the great room next. Bit by bit, section by section it WILL be pulled up.
now that the actual carpet pulling has commenced we can get someone in to give us the bid on installing the new floor. I know I could lay it with the help of a friend or two, but I sure would like to get it down in one fell swoop then the month it would take me and my back to get it done. I am not sure there are enough good pharmaceuticals in the world to make my back happy with laying flooring. Heck, I think K might even back *groan* me on this one.
I am a happy girl
K is a happy girl. The fids will be happy critters soon (I hope). And now….I must clay to celebrate!
and a Shabbat Shalom to my Jewish friends.
Ahhh today the sun is shining and the clay is calling. Yesterday I made 6 polymer clay origami cranes following the you tube tutorials Judy Dunn- The Crane Project posted on her web site. With her permission and blessing, I will be adding Shalom on one wing (Peace in Hebrew) and Peace on the other wing and sell them here in town to help raise funds for her project. Though my first cranes aren’t the best in the world, I am pleased with them so far. I need to make the stencils to screen paint them and drill the holes to make them hanging ones and then They will be good to go. Today I will be back in the studio to make more. Maybe this time with cane pieces on them instead of just plain clay. Anyway, here are the ones I have made so far.
To see them as individual cranes please head over to my flickr site and check them out there.
I hope each and every one of you has a peaceful and creative weekend!
