Birth of the ClayRoom Day 2

by Kathi on Monday, May 12, 2008

This is turning into long labor! I seem to have more stuff then room, even with the added storage I got. Guess there will be a “great studio sale” after this birth is over.

I started in bright and early this morning totally backwards, by bringing stuff in and then going “DOH” when I realized I needed floor space to build the desk and shelf unit. So I took some pictures before the great construction began. Here is the partially loaded room.

Looking in from the doorwaysee? there’s the new desk and cabinet…it the boxesthe evil ironing watching me ignore it

After moving things to the walls I attacked the desk and cabinet, got them built and set where I think I want them. I got the computer hooked up first thing and then got my clay table in place and my cabinet that holds my clay right next to it. My next step was to bring in more stuff. Not that I have put anything away yet, but hey…at least I know I will have too much stuff to put away.

I finally ran out of steam about 4pm this afternoon and took the after construction pictures. Here they are.

the window wall with desk, computer, table, and clay storage.the wall where the Murphy bed isthe wall the door is on.the evil ironing. dang it, it is still there

Tomorrow I will start in getting my supplies all organized and labeled. I have enough drawers, containers and shelves. I just need to get items on/in to them in a neater manner then I have been doing. And maybe, just maybe I can get a wee bit of claying in. Who knows, I may even find my jewelers saw blades! they have been MIA for three weeks. Happy claying!

It’s looking good! Such a nice bright room. Setting up a new creative space can be a pain, but it’s exciting too.

Hey Kathi,
What a great room you’re going to have. It makes me sort of envious….especially the wood floors! The carpet in my area is fulllllll of clay! Gotta get rid of it. And what a perfect chance to really get organized and get rid of some of the crap that accumulates. It’s too bad that ironing board has a life!!! I think I’ve ironed twice in the last year and a half….the last time was just before I went out to Orange, CA. I’ve learned to take everything out of the dryer while it’s still warm, shake it, and hang it up…no ironing needed. Try it!!!!! There are too many fun things to do.

Yeppers Bettina….lots more room AND all my things in the same place instead of spread out all over the house. Here’s hoping I can start creating soon!

Susan, I am so happy Karen and I came up with this idea. Now all the art/craft things are in one place, no more clay in carpeting AND I can look out the window and watch the baby killdeer running around in the cul de sac. If I had my druthers there would never be a need for ironing, but now that Karen has been promoted to a supervisor she needs meeting attire. So, I must iron with a wee bit of starch.

Thanks Libby! I love the fact that I can look out the window in there. I do need to trim the tree a bit though :D AND there will be enough room that can have my silver station in there too! No more schlepping out to the glass studio to do simple solders.

I am so happy to have a real room to dedicate (at least when we don’t have overnight visitors!) Now to get in there and it all organized!!!

What a nice space to keep your creative juices flowing. I know it’ll be exciting as you get closer to some clay time and look around the room… actually find things… and even those saw blades!

I am excited thats for sure, but not excited enough to keep on pushing forward. I tool today off as a back break. I may do a bit more tonight, but nothing heavy or any lifting. The saw blades will show up eventually…..I hope :)
