Commission windows update

by Kathi on Tuesday, July 29, 2008

I thought I would share where I am on the window commissions. I started with the Mem window as it was going to be painted with glass paints. The first picture is of the pattern all laid out and ready to go. the Plexi is on top of it.
The Mem ready to paint Middle of the paint job

The second image is of most of the painting done. I need to add flowers to the hillsides and possibly some clouds in the sky. I also need to cut out the mem shape and get it painted in a combination of reds, yellows, and orange. This will then be mounted on top of the window, to give it some depth.

Back to the grind. see you all next time I stick my nose out!~

No, I didn’t fall off the face of the Earth

Life has just been a wee bit insane. I have been working up the patterns for the two commission windows and finally have the full size patterns printed and I will be starting on the first one tomorrow. I then will be conditioning about 30 pounds of clay so I have enough ready to do the clay window. Munro’s rocks for discount :D I am hoping I ordered WAY too much clay for the window so I ahve some left to make pretties with. I am missing being able to sit in the studio and be creative.

I did manage to get a few things made….we were doing a focal bead swap at our monthly guild meeting so I made a few for that. For your viewing pleasure here they are :)

what can I say? it’s spikey Octafishy anyone? it wasn’t supposed to be a fish……
for the rest of them, you can head over to my Flickr account

besides doing patterns and a wee bit of claying, I spent time keeping my wee child under “control (so to speak). Wee Peiggi decided she needed to help me with my projects…..like painting my small “window”.

Dr Pepper…yum
OR going swimming without her life vest…..

Or…..thinking she is a master chef and getting ready to concoct something with a wee pumpkin (to her it is ginormous!)
Holy Pumpkin Batman~!!~

I should of taken note to Moe’s excitement with The Bruce. I should of figured out that all those wyld wee ones from Chris are wyld for sure. But I tell you….life would be oh so boring without my wee one.

and now….off to cook supper. You have a clayful rest of the week :D

something a wee bit different then clay

I saw on the national news today a story about a 11 year old girl who loves animals. When she heard about all the animals that have been abandoned as their owners have been foreclosed on and so on. She came up with the idea of free kibbles from the freerice.com site. I ask ya, how hard is it to answer a simple dog trivia question and have 20 kibbles donated to animals that have lost their “forever home”? So, if you love fur kids like I do, I challenge you to click the banner and answer each day. Thanks.

New Commission

by Kathi on Friday, July 4, 2008

Well it looks like Wee Peigi and I will be pretty busy for the next month or so, doing two rather large commission windows. About three years ago a gentleman commissioned a stain glass window for an east facing vaulted window in his house. The window gets direct morning sun so it looks pretty amazing (if I may say so myself). Here is a picture taken right after I finished the installation. This is with the non-direct afternoon sun light coming through it.

The next two windows will not be done in glass, but one in polymer clay and the second one in glass paints with some glow in the dark paint for special effects. Each window measures 5 feet by 3 feet (except the angle side*g*)

I will be making mock ups of these two before tackling the larger ones. This way I get to keep a wee bit of the spirit here when the windows get installed. It will also help me figure out how much clay I will need to order.

Yeppers, this is another one of those mind blowing large commissions I tend to get. However, the spiritual and emotional intensity that comes with creating pieces of Judaica this large makes it more then worth it. I promise to post pictures of the process. I won’t promise them daily though :D

Have a safe and sane holiday weekend and may your clay flow freely from your hands.

Polymer and Origami

by Kathi on Tuesday, July 1, 2008

Since I learned to fold polymer clay cranes from Judy Dunn and her crane project, I began to think about what else could be made in clay. Then Toby posted on her blog a wonderful origami Magan David (Star of David) folded in paper and I had to see if I could actually make one in clay.

Remnant clay is a wonderful thing for practice, and practice I did. I folded 6 of different sizes and clay thickness before I finally made one I think will work. It isn’t perfect, heck I am not sure it is even pretty, but I like it, I will keep it and hang it in my studio to keep me motivated. It is the second one I baked. The others got mushed up and recycled into practice clay. I am thinking these will look neat with multi-colored points, skinner blends, and maybe even some floral veneers. So, here it is. thanks for looking.

Have a clayful day!
