This month the Bakersfield Museum of Art is accepting submissions for a juried show. The Theme of the show is “Roots”. How it is interpreted is up to the artist. Well one of my goals for this year has been to do more about getting my name “out there” so I thought this might be a good chance for me. I am a bit nervous about it all but the worse thing they can do is not accept it and then I have a new piece of art for the house.
I decided to base my “Roots” on the Hebrew phrase “L’Chiam”- To Life. Going from there to a “tree of Life” was an easy step for me. I decided to use polymer clay and copper wire to create a tree form and then attach L”Chiam letters done in a faux cloisonne style. So far I have the base made (cut out and holes for the wire), the base tree form done with copper wire and the scrap clay packing done.
I think this will come out the way it is in my head. The center portion of the tree that shows the wrapped wires will stay open….connecting the roots in the ground to the sky above us. Pretty esoteric eh? Stay tuned for more works in progress on this Tree. Thanks for reading.
