Wow…

No Comments, Knitting, Life, personal challenge, polymer clay, by Dragonsglass.

two posts in one month. ok who am I and what did I do with DaDragon? Not much is happening around here. I am working in the studio daily making earrings. Pretty much making Angry Bird Earrings and Angry Bird Hannukiot for my friends who want them. However, lurking in the back of my mind are some ideas I want to put to clay. A little shadowy right now but if I give the dragonbrain a bit of time, they will clarify and be created in clay. I also did something I have wanted to do for a while. I am going back to “school”. The community college here in town offers courses for folks who are older and want to try different classes without having to commit to a full semester. I bit the bullet and signed up for a beginning watercolor class. I have always wanted “formal” art training and figured this would be a perfect place to start. There were actually three classes I wanted to take but they all met on the same day and that would of been 6 hours in a row. nope….back refused that idea. I am excited about this and look forward to class beginning March 4th. Yes, I will share pictures of what I create….IF they are share worthy Besides working in the studio with clay, I am getting back into my knitting with a beautiful cable sweater (that is 1/4 finished) for my wife. I keep getting side tracked with fast projects (doggy sweaters and…

Welcome, 2012

3 Comments, Family, Life, News, personal challenge, polar bear plunge, by Dragonsglass.

As I look back to last year, I am actually impressed with how much work I did and how I grew in my art. For this year I wish myself the same or more. For you who actually do read my poorly kept up blog, I wish you health, happiness, peace, love, laughter, and time to create to your hearts content. On a lighter note, I have decided it is time to cross a few things off my “bucket list”. The first will be crossed off today…around 11 am. I am crazy, I am an idiot, but I AM going to do a Polar Bear plunge today. I have always wanted to do one and a friend did it last year, will be going again this year, so we are going to do it together. And yes, Karen will be taking pictures and video taping so every one can see me being abso frakkin lutely crazy. Can life be any better then this?

Another Friday

Wow, two posts in less then a year. So, it has been four weeks since I had my spinal cord stimulator implanted and all I can say is I am damn happy with it. None of my normal back pain, the healing from the operation pain is almost gone and I have only four weeks left of limited activity. yes, all is well that part of my world.I have been working on my “Sketchbook Project” and should have it finished and submitted by the end of November if not sooner. Speedy I am not because it took me a long time to figure out what I was going to do. I asked for a topic to be randomly assigned and I got “Great Hopes and Massive Failures”. Gee, how creatively inspiring for me. Not…..but that is why I choose to take on this project. To push my boundaries and think outside my normal box of polymer clay canes. Finally, on September 30th my creativity kicked in, along with my inner activist, and I nailed down what my sketchbook would be all about. It is about society, and how it has massively FAILED youths across our country, especially GLBT one’s. With the rash of highly publicized suicides resulting from being bullies, my project was born. Having one suicide happen in my community helped nail my muse down.Besides my sketchbook project, I am working on making more items for my weekly artisan faire, and hopefully to re-open my etsy and artfire stores. I think I need someone…

El Día de los Muertos

No Comments, News, by Dragonsglass.

Where or where has Kathi been. Well, I have been in the studio. I know, shocking isn’t it. You remember my “Tree of life” I did for the local Museum of art right? Well they asked if I would decorate a ceramic skull for the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the dead) exhibition that would be opening September 17th this year. I said yes. They only asked 40 folks so I was honored to be included. Of course, with my memory like a leaking sieve, I totally forgot the due date (sept 1) until I picked up my tree (sept 1) and asked when the skulls were due. OIKS. Thank goodness they were giving everyone until Friday to turn them in. So from Tuesday afternoon to Friday at noon, I was in the studio doing some power claying, so to speak. I had decided to make it a filigree skull. Yep, I am as crazy as a loon for this decision, but in the end it was the right one to make. My poor fids (fur kids) thought I didn’t love them any more. Especially Rascal, the kitten. He missed me so much that yesterday morning as I was trying to finish the skull, he decided that he would be my helper, sitting on my head (yep, you read that right) and purring while I filled in with filigree. Sorry no pictures of that wonderful event but I have TONS of picture on the work in progress. It only took a measly 8 bakings…

Tree of Life

The sculpture I made for a juried show at our Museum of Art came home today. No one bought it so now it will grace our house unless someone from Temple wants it. In case you missed it, here is a picture of it.

New Direction

No Comments, polymer clay, by Dragonsglass.

Besides doing beading and making some simple items I am experimenting on a technique that is, to me, a combination of old and new. I am trying something new…and so far it is looking like it will be doing what I want it to do. As a wee little teaser here is a picture of the first test result. Have a clayful weekend!

One Busy Bee!

2 Comments, Family, News, polymer clay, by Dragonsglass.

I have been insanely busy this last couple of weeks, what with a challenge on the Aussie polyclay site, making a pendant for an online contest and the biggest….getting prepped for our Relay For Life this coming weekend. Then let’s toss on the household stuff that needed to be done….laundry, dishes, getting the garden(s) planted. Making a second garden box, this one elevated on legs so I won’t have to bend. So, here are a few pictures I was able to get taken. so thats all me being domestic goddess. on to the clay. Here is the focal I have made for the online contest. I am stumped on how to string it. I can’t decide if I want it on chain, fiber, or soft glass. What do y’all think? That’s it from me for a while. Now down to the final grindstone with RFL. Have a clayful weekend and I will see you next week.

The Big day

3 Comments, News, by Dragonsglass.

was today. Yep, i really did it. I took my “L’Chiam-To Life” down to the Bakersfield Art Museum and entered it into the exhibit. Talk about nervous. Oy. They said I should know if I get juried in at the end of this week or early next week. I don’t think I will be nervous about this part. Either I make it or I don’t. What I will be nervous about is if I DO get accepted. That means I will need to be at the opening on May 14th. I sure hope they don’t mind folks showing up in jeans or shorts cause that’s all I have On sort of the same track, while I was there filling out the paperwork for the exhibition, they asked me if I would like to be one of 50 artists who will be displaying decorated ceramic skulls for “Day of The Dead” exhibition opening September 17th. Lord knows what I was thinking because I said sure…without thinking. OIKS! Now I have a 3/4 size ceramic skull sitting in my studio…staring at me when i go in there….daring me to make it “pretty”? I guess now I will be doing a bit of research on “El Dia de Los Muertos”. It’s not part of my Jewish upbringing. In a way, doing the research will be good for me, teaching me new things, giving me insight into other customs and traditions. And this is always a good thing in my book. So, stay tuned…I am sure there will be…

“L’Chiam-To Life”

4 Comments, News, polymer clay, by Dragonsglass.

No matter that rocks surround us, our roots strive to connect with the earth, forging through the hardness, anchoring us. As we grow, our limbs reach heavenward, striving to anchor with the heavens. And with the anchors, we live. L’Chiam

frustrated

2 Comments, News, by Dragonsglass.

I am frustrated with the LChiam lettering. It is not looking right hanging from the leafy wires so now I either need to secure it to the lava rock or the edges of the base. neither way looks right to me. I have a feeling I am going to have to redo the lettering…..maybe onto black lava rock chips or something. *grumblesnort*
