let the de-cluttering begin!

by Kathi on Friday, April 18, 2008

Our dumpster arrived yesterday and is sitting in the garage just waiting for 7 years of accumulated crap to be tossed. This morning I began in the studio. Time to organize and get rid of the stuff I will never use. I am packing up a box with this stuff and schlepping it off to our guild meeting tomorrow morning. I was going to throw anything they didn’t take but decided if there is enough of whatever, I will do another Dragonsglass sale on my site.

am taking a back break, then back to the clay mine. In between de-cluttering I will be folding cranes and making a full batch to bake while I de-clutter more. I think I am taking a page from Jana Roberts Benzon. Karen walked into the clay room and said “OMG, the room exploded!”. Every time I go anywhere with Jana, or she comes here, I always give her a hard time about her suitcase “exploding”. I guess she can give me a hard time now. Probably should take a picture to show her :)

Have a clayful day!

Walking for a Cure

by Kathi on Tuesday, April 8, 2008

Can you believe that more than 1.3 million new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in the United States this year? Those are staggering statistics, but there is hope. Each of us can do something to save lives and help those already fighting this disease. That’s why I’ve decided to take action against cancer by supporting the American Cancer Society Relay For LifeĀ® event right here in my community.

Relay For Life is an overnight event that brings our community together to help support the American Cancer Society and its lifesaving mission to eliminate cancer as a major health problem. The Society works hard every day to prevent cancer and save lives by supporting groundbreaking research, affecting public policies that protect us from cancer, and educating people on how to prevent or detect cancer early. The Society helps people with cancer right here in our own community. And our efforts at Relay For Life can help the American Cancer Society to keep working toward a cancer-free future.

Cancer has touched my life more often then it should of. From losing my mom to cancer, to celebrating the fact that my brother and partner are both cancer survivors. Having lost too many friends to this disease, I commit to Relay For life each year, hoping that maybe this is the year that a cure is found. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and if you are lead to make a donation to help me fulfill my goal of raising $500, I thank you in advance.

A challenge to look forward to

Tonight I was surfing Flickr looking for inspiration in a “colorful” group when I saw this picture of a kaleidescope. Of course, since it is purple, I was immediately drawn to it. As I looked at it longer and longer I saw skinner blends, I saw speckled logs, I saw a cane being built. So…..the first big cane I make after my wrist heals will be an attempt to create this….

Purple Kaleidescope

So…..anyone else want to take this one on with me? I have a feeling I might do a wee bit of judicious editing on parts of it….or not. I guess time will tell eh? Happy claying every one!
