Will the birth pangs ever end?

by Kathi on Thursday, May 15, 2008

I swear it seems like all I am doing is moving items from one place to another and am no closer to being able to sit down and clay. I will admit I *did* get a few things in place. Another thing I did manage to get done was to get my shelf of dragons up. I am happy with that

Shelf of dragons

There are dragons from Linda Weeks, Kathy Davis, Eva Eriksen, Pat Osmundsen, Moe Taylorson, Christi Friesen, Fae Moon, and one I made (and kept to remind me why I don’t sculpt)

I emptied three boxes and got magazines, books and some videos up on shelves. Today I put up a table and set aside the items I will be selling and the items I will be getting organized and labeled. I do have a computer working in there but for some reason Bertha does not want to connect with the internet. This was the last straw for me with her. As I am sorting I will also be burning stuff off her HD that I want to keep and then I will wipe her clean, put a new OS on her and offer her to who ever wants her. I will admit she is a good computer, for a PC, and deserves a good home. I am just happier using my MacBook Pro.

So here are pictures from yesterday. Does it even look like I made any progress? Oy.

My clay stock on the floor and my “wall of fame”..my medic certifications. My bookshelf and stuff that needs to be put away.Bertha’s corner…and where my inspiration board will bestack of stuff.

I keep hoping that it will be done when I wake up but nope….so I guess I need to get off the sofa and get into the room and back to work. I hope everyone has a clayful day!

Birth of the ClayRoom Day 2

by Kathi on Monday, May 12, 2008

This is turning into long labor! I seem to have more stuff then room, even with the added storage I got. Guess there will be a “great studio sale” after this birth is over.

I started in bright and early this morning totally backwards, by bringing stuff in and then going “DOH” when I realized I needed floor space to build the desk and shelf unit. So I took some pictures before the great construction began. Here is the partially loaded room.

Looking in from the doorwaysee? there’s the new desk and cabinet…it the boxesthe evil ironing watching me ignore it

After moving things to the walls I attacked the desk and cabinet, got them built and set where I think I want them. I got the computer hooked up first thing and then got my clay table in place and my cabinet that holds my clay right next to it. My next step was to bring in more stuff. Not that I have put anything away yet, but hey…at least I know I will have too much stuff to put away.

I finally ran out of steam about 4pm this afternoon and took the after construction pictures. Here they are.

Tomorrow I will start in getting my supplies all organized and labeled. I have enough drawers, containers and shelves. I just need to get items on/in to them in a neater manner then I have been doing. And maybe, just maybe I can get a wee bit of claying in. Who knows, I may even find my jewelers saw blades! they have been MIA for three weeks. Happy claying!

Birthing a new clay room

by Kathi on Sunday, May 11, 2008

This weekend we have been busily putting our little “kingdoms” in order. I have spent most of my time bringing in and getting the living spaces back to order. The great room is all done and we have some very happy kids….as this picture shows.

Two Happy Cats

Karen has been working madly on getting the old office turned into her office and music studio room. I took pictures of the guest room that will soon become my new clay room too. These are taken before much of anything is in the room.

So….there you have it. Day one of the great clay room birth. That was yesterday. Today we went and picked up a desk and storage cupboard for in there. that will be my job tomorrow. putting those together and starting to figure out where I want to put everything. Of course I will have to work around the bed and the ironing board. Of course I will be reminded of all the ironing I have to do (the shirts hanging in the closet….I keep hoping for the ironing fairy to take care of that for me…but alas) until I get the closet door back on. Then it will be the “out of sight, out of mind” going on. And now…I think I will imitate my cats and collapse for a while.

The flooring has shipped!!

by Kathi on Sunday, April 27, 2008

We found out that it shipped on Friday which means it is even MORE imperative to get the decluttering done! We have filled a dumpster to over flowing and I will schedule pickup and dump tomorrow then round two of filling begins. this time it will get the icky old carpet and padding, plus whatever else we manage to find.

between pulling carpeting and de-cluttering I have been stripping and painting cabinets. they look pretty darn good if I say so myself. Now we are waiting for the hinges to get in so we will finally ahve matching hinges and pulls. I took Thursday and friday off from all that stuff to rest my back and find some clay to beat. I am also under a deadline to get the afghan throw done for Relay For Life which is next saturday. I have 24 more squares to make and then need to put it together, wash and block it. Wheeeeeeeeeee

I did manage to get 6 pendants bases done and will add the next step tomorrow and three more cranes folded and baked. I hope I have enough stuff to raise a ton of money at RFL. Might have to spend a bit more time in the clayroom to get more cranes finished.

K and I talked about the two rooms (office and guest/music/clay room) over lunch today. It is decided that since I don’t use the office much any more she will take it over for her computer and music room. I will get the guest room for my clay supplies. I willbe adding some cabinetry under the window and put a nice counter top down for a combination area….part for the clay surface and part for the sewing machine. The printer scanner will also go in there with the PC I don’t use very much….so I CAN clay and check my email if I want to. This will also allow me to set up the web cam again and do demos if I want. We are both excited about this new room split. *dance**dance*

ok…off to taping off and more painting.

let the de-cluttering begin!

by Kathi on Friday, April 18, 2008

Our dumpster arrived yesterday and is sitting in the garage just waiting for 7 years of accumulated crap to be tossed. This morning I began in the studio. Time to organize and get rid of the stuff I will never use. I am packing up a box with this stuff and schlepping it off to our guild meeting tomorrow morning. I was going to throw anything they didn’t take but decided if there is enough of whatever, I will do another Dragonsglass sale on my site.

am taking a back break, then back to the clay mine. In between de-cluttering I will be folding cranes and making a full batch to bake while I de-clutter more. I think I am taking a page from Jana Roberts Benzon. Karen walked into the clay room and said “OMG, the room exploded!”. Every time I go anywhere with Jana, or she comes here, I always give her a hard time about her suitcase “exploding”. I guess she can give me a hard time now. Probably should take a picture to show her :)

Have a clayful day!
