Tag you’re it

by Kathi on Thursday, May 1, 2008

Being tagged as a blogger is a bit different than the childhood game of tag, being tagged as a blogger is more of a call out to say, “I read your blog, and I like it.” Much better than being tagged as a kid :)

The rules:
1. Place the name of the person and URL on your blog.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write seven things about yourself.
4. Name seven of your favorite blogs.
5. Send an email letting those bloggers know they have been tagged.

Favorite Blogs:
1. Judy Dunn. A creative and forward looking artist.
2. Libby Mills. A very creative metalsmith and polymer clay artist.
3. Naama Zamir. An Israel artist who creates amazing Judaica art
4. DrMom aka Toby. A dear friend who focuses her blog on Jewish artist. A polymer clay artist in her own right.
5. Barbara Fajardo. A dear friend who creates the most amazing art.
6. Jenn Dorion. A multi-talented artist I am proud to call friend.
7. Janice Arbarbanel. Janice does amazing things with paint, crackle and clay!

Seven things about me:
1. I worked as a paramedic for 25 years
2. I live with my partner of 11 years and a houseful of wonderful fur, feathered, and finned children
3. I ride a beautiful purple motorcycle, Ame’ (short for Amethyst Wings)
4. I went to high school with Bill Gates and sold my yearbook with his picture in it for $700
5. I was born and raised in the Seattle area, but live in Bakersfield California now.
6.My first art love is stained glass. I learned how to work with glass as a stress reliever from my job as a paramedic.
7. I read from the Torah last May for my Adult B’nai Mitzvah.

The flooring has shipped!!

by Kathi on Sunday, April 27, 2008

We found out that it shipped on Friday which means it is even MORE imperative to get the decluttering done! We have filled a dumpster to over flowing and I will schedule pickup and dump tomorrow then round two of filling begins. this time it will get the icky old carpet and padding, plus whatever else we manage to find.

between pulling carpeting and de-cluttering I have been stripping and painting cabinets. they look pretty darn good if I say so myself. Now we are waiting for the hinges to get in so we will finally ahve matching hinges and pulls. I took Thursday and friday off from all that stuff to rest my back and find some clay to beat. I am also under a deadline to get the afghan throw done for Relay For Life which is next saturday. I have 24 more squares to make and then need to put it together, wash and block it. Wheeeeeeeeeee

I did manage to get 6 pendants bases done and will add the next step tomorrow and three more cranes folded and baked. I hope I have enough stuff to raise a ton of money at RFL. Might have to spend a bit more time in the clayroom to get more cranes finished.

K and I talked about the two rooms (office and guest/music/clay room) over lunch today. It is decided that since I don’t use the office much any more she will take it over for her computer and music room. I will get the guest room for my clay supplies. I willbe adding some cabinetry under the window and put a nice counter top down for a combination area….part for the clay surface and part for the sewing machine. The printer scanner will also go in there with the PC I don’t use very much….so I CAN clay and check my email if I want to. This will also allow me to set up the web cam again and do demos if I want. We are both excited about this new room split. *dance**dance*

ok…off to taping off and more painting.

let the de-cluttering begin!

by Kathi on Friday, April 18, 2008

Our dumpster arrived yesterday and is sitting in the garage just waiting for 7 years of accumulated crap to be tossed. This morning I began in the studio. Time to organize and get rid of the stuff I will never use. I am packing up a box with this stuff and schlepping it off to our guild meeting tomorrow morning. I was going to throw anything they didn’t take but decided if there is enough of whatever, I will do another Dragonsglass sale on my site.

am taking a back break, then back to the clay mine. In between de-cluttering I will be folding cranes and making a full batch to bake while I de-clutter more. I think I am taking a page from Jana Roberts Benzon. Karen walked into the clay room and said “OMG, the room exploded!”. Every time I go anywhere with Jana, or she comes here, I always give her a hard time about her suitcase “exploding”. I guess she can give me a hard time now. Probably should take a picture to show her :)

Have a clayful day!

well that was a flop

by Kathi on Tuesday, April 15, 2008

so much of one, I am not even going to post pictures. I knew there was a reason to be afraid to open the kiln door. Instead of a tile of nice pretty bling, some from free form dichroic, some from the glass clay, I have nice free form dichroic bling and clay blobs that don’t look like awareness ribbons at all. Looks like I will be rethinking how I use the powdered glass and binder. I have not given up at all, just backing up a few steps and taking a different direction then attempting to cane from it.

on a different note, while looking for my pickle solution, I found a ton of PMS and cork clay I totally forgot I had. Almost like winning the lottery :D So, I may be doing a combination of glass and PMC soon. decisions decisions.

Have a happy creative day!

the mad scientific experiments have begun! The first batch (way not as easy as clay btw) is in the kiln doing it’s kiln thing and I have pictures of before too. Once they are out and can be handled I will get after pictures and post it all for you to see.
