This is a small movie I made of me reducing my 5 plus pound cane. I am putting up a link to it because many have asked “How DO you reduce canes.” Of course this is an “extreme” size cane for most folks but the method is still the same. Just like anything else in polymer clay, learning to reduce a cane without a lot of distortion takes the dreaded *P* word….practice, practice, practice.

When I make a cane this large I usually let the whole cane sit for a day or two so the clay is all the same “temperature”. I then choose to commence claty beating outside on a cement surface so the vibrations go through the clay and are not dispersed through a table or such.
